Completion: 2005
Location: Kamakura, Japan
This project is the renewal of an old charnel built in 1979 for a Christian cemetery in the rear hills of Kamakura, an old capital of Japan. Although a sacred building where the parents use to come to pay homage to their passed relatives, the feeling was of a cold and dispirited place. Knowing this we decided to give a new birth to a place where people would quietly feel in harmony with the surrounding nature and its soul. Eventually with very simple means a timeless place was created.
